Julian Draxler extends his contract with Paris Saint-Germain

Step by step, Paris Saint-Germain is drawing the contours of its workforce. A piece of news made the world tour this weekend as the extension of the contract of Neymar. He extends his contract until 2025. Today, it is Julian Draxler who extends his contract with PSG under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

Both sides involved have reached a three-year agreement and reducing his salary below €7 million per year.

The former Schalke player joined the PSG in January 2017 and is under contract until June 2021. Draxler had been recruited for €36 million, during the winter Mercato of the 2016-2017 season. He has scored 4 goals and provided 7 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions this season.

Julian Draxler extends contract at PSG by refusing offers from Bayern:

Mauricio Pochettino would not be unrelated to his extension. Draxler has made it known that he loves Paris. Moreover, it seems that Pochettino’s confidence in the player has led him to want to continue his contract with PSG. Draxler was hoping for a two-year extension. He agreed to a cut in his salary (over €7M gross per year)due to the Covid-19 situation. FC Bayern Munich offered him a better salary but he extends his contract with PSG.

Pochettino did not want to change his squad too much this summer to avoid having to buy too many players. PSG now avoids paying a transfer fee to replace Draxler. The former German player had previously been pushed out by Leonardo.  For a long time, he was considered as a simple substitute during his adventure at PSG because of bad performances. The midfielder has been better in the second half of the season.

Therefore, there will be no free departure, and the 27-year-old German international commits to three new seasons with PSG. But it is probably the most expected issue of the Parisian Mercato that remains unresolved, with Mbappe’s contract running out in 2022.
