Lionel Messi ‘s travel to Barcelona hints at his transfer move

Exclusive to Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi skipped an awards ceremony in Paris to attend a Coldplay concert in Barcelona with his wife and Cesc Fabregas on Sunday, a day after PSG won the title. Lionel Messi has fueled speculation about his future by opting to attend a Coldplay concert in Barcelona with Cesc Fabregas rather than the Ligue 1 awards ceremony on Sunday. Messi scored in Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-1 draw with Strasbourg on Saturday night. Messi’s goal help the club achieve the Ligue 1 title. The Argentine scored his 496th goal in Europe’s top five divisions, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s previous record of 495.

Messi is likely to join Barcelona very soon

The result ensured PSG’s seventh title in the last 11 seasons in France’s top flight, ahead of their season finale against Clermont on the weekend. PSG players were showering champagne and chanting inside the locker room. However Messi was sitting and did not join in. Messi’s PSG contract expires at the end of June, and he is certain to leave after two years. PSG suspended him in April for an unapproved trip to Saudi Arabia. As a result he appears to be estranged from the rest of the group.

A footage is circulating in social media after the weekend. The footage showed Messi in the crowd watching Coldplay with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and former Barcelona teammate Fabregas on Sunday. People began chanting his name as speculations circulated that he was ready to rejoin the club he departed in the summer of 2021.

Messi was in Barcelona rather than in Paris for the UNFP awards presentation. Kylian Mbappe was crowned Ligue 1 player of the season. Messi was named to the Ligue 1 team of the season at a ceremony hosted by the players’ union. But he was not present to accept the award. PSG fans were unimpressed, with one tweeting: “Priorities PSG celebrating >>> Coldplay concert”. Barcelona fans, on the other hand, were ecstatic about his visit, with one remarking, “He’s coming home.”

Antonela Roccuzzo is unwilling for a move to Saudi Arabia

Messi has several choices when his contract with PSG expires on June 30. Barcelona, MLS side Inter Miami, and Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal all interested in his services. Al-Hilal are offering to give him a stunning £369 million per year, while Miami, which David Beckham owns, have been trying to persuade him to come for years. According to L’Equipe, Messi’s wife, Antonela, is opposed to the Saudi transfer because she does not want to relocate the couple’s three young sons to the Middle East. Barcelona are thus favourites, despite their financial difficulties. Moreover president Joan Laporta recently spoke with Messi’s father Jorge and is trying hard to get him back to Spain.

Messi has 21 goals and 20 assists in 40 games for PSG across all competitions. His stats indicate that he still has plenty to provide as he is near to his 36th birthday in June.
