The Reds have identified a potential replacement for Mohammed Salah if the Egyptian leaves the club this summer. Liverpool are looking at Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho as a long-term option to bolster their attack according to Bild.
Liverpool are currently 6th in the Premier League, 4 points below 4th placed Chelsea. They currently are having a poor season and will be looking to freshen up their squad for the coming season.
Jadon Sancho has been a revelation at Dortmund. He has attracted the interest of multiple clubs ever since his switch to Germany from Manchester City. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big admirer and tried to bring the 21-year-old last season to Manchester United.
THE ENGLISH SENSATION
Jadon Sancho has had a mixed season with Borussia Dortmund. The Englishman scored 6 and assisted for 9 goals in 23 Bundesliga matches he has played. While his underlining numbers are good, there is a drop off from the previous season, where he scored 17 and assisted 17 in 32 Bundesliga matches.
Injuries and off-field issues have had an impact on his output. The 21-year-old was also set to move to Manchester United last summer window. However, the clubs were not able to come to a deal regarding his transfer fee. This had an effect on Sancho, especially in the first half of the season.
Traditionally a right-winger, Sancho can also play on the left as well as in the number 10 role. He is an excellent dribbler, averaging around 3 dribbles a match in Bundesliga. A reason for Dortmund’s dropoff in form this season can be attributed to the absence of Sancho and his creative abilities.
SANCHO TO REPLACE SALAH AT LIVERPOOL
The Reds are enduring a disappointing season this time. They face the possibility of not qualifying for the Champions League next season. And the initial decision of joining the European Super League has also not gone well with the fans either. The club thus could make more investment, at least to appease the fans.
Another reason for the rebuild is the constant rumor regarding the future of their top scorer Mohammed Salah. He has also not rejected the possibility of a move. With Salah turning 29 this June, this could be the opportunity for Liverpool to cash in on the Egyptian, who has a contract till 2023.
Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Jadon Sancho and bringing in the English winger for Salah will be good business. Sancho might not have the same goal contribution as Salah but he is a more creative presence.
Any move for Sancho could also possibly depend on Liverpool qualifying for the Champions League as other clubs are also interested to bring the Dortmund star, most notably Manchester United.
