Liverpool leading the race to sign the next Firmino

Liverpool

According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are interested in signing Hoffenheim center-forward Maximilian Beier. The journalist claims that many English clubs are interested in the 21-year old. However, the fact that he only mentioned Liverpool’s name may be a hint that the Reds are leading the race for Beier’s signature.

The German has a £26 million release clause in his contract, which is not a big sum in today’s market.

Beier has been in fine form this season. He will certainly be hoping to earn a place in Germany’s Euro 2024 squad.

Beier’s numbers this season

After graduating from Hoffenheim’s academy, Maximilian Beier honed his craft over the past few years on loan with Bundesliga 2 side Hannover 04. He returned to Hoffenhiem this season and has certainly impressed everyone immediately. He has six goals and four assists across just 13 appearances in the German top-flight.

As per Sofascore, he has averaged 2.4 shots per game and has missed just two big chances in the Bundesliga. For context, Darwin Nunez has missed 15 in the 2023/24 Premier League.

How Maximilian Beier compares to Liverpool legend Firmino

Roberto Firmino is considered as a Liverpool legend by many. He was a key part of the Liverpool side that has enjoyed success in the recent years. The Brazilian was silky and smooth, gliding across the pitch and baffling defenders with his deft touches. It is said that while Mo Salah and Sadio Mane wreaked havoc, it was Firmino who pulled the strings.

Maximilian Beier is already showing signs of effectiveness across both his direct threat and his creativity. Just like Firmino, he’d also be joining from Hoffenhiem. That is another similarity there.

Beier would certainly add a sense of dynamism to Liverpool’s frontline. He could could be the missing piece to ensure that Klopp boasts a formidable frontline for many years to come.
