Liverpool make first move for former Everton player amidst injury crisis at left-back

Liverpool are having real problems at left back. The Reds saw star left-back Andrew Robertson go down with a shoulder injury in October and he hasn’t yet returned to action.

Kostas Tsimikas was filling in, but he has now picked up a collarbone injury and will be out for months. Liverpool are without their first choice and back-up left-back and are now playing Joe Gomez in that position.

Liverpool want Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson

90min report that Liverpool will turn to the transfer market to fill the void at left-back. It’s stated that the Reds have now made contact with Fulham as they chase a deal for Antonee Robinson. Robinson is also allegedly ‘open’ to joining Liverpool in January and the Reds are attempting to strike a deal with the Cottagers. Robinson’s current contract runs until 2028, so it won’t be a cheap deal for Liverpool, especially in the middle of the season.

The American has started 18 games for Fulham this season. He has provided three assists this season as he plays an important role under Marco Silva.

Robinson as a Red would sting Everton

The 26-year-old started his career at Everton, joining their youth ranks at the age of 11. Robinson progressed through the ranks but was never given even a single first-team appearance. They eventually sold him to Wigan Athletic for just £2 million in 2019. However, Robinson stepped up to the Premier League with Fulham in 2020 and hasn’t looked back since, making Everton look rather foolish.

Seeing him shine elsewhere already stings enough, but seeing the pacy full-back join bitter rivals Liverpool would sting Everton even more. Robinson may play in Merseyside derbies if Liverpool end up signing him. And if he plays good in those derbies, that would really rub salt in the wounds of the Toffees.
