Liverpool targeting Palhinha might create changes in the system

Liverpool

Since January is approaching, Liverpool remains associated with possible new signings. One player frequently linked to the Reds is Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.

However, despite claims that he would be an ideal addition for Jurgen Klopp, it appears increasingly doubtful that Liverpool will pursue the 28-year-old. Journalist Dean Jones recently conveyed the latest information on Palhinha’s potential move to Liverpool during the Ranks FC Podcast.

Jones said:

“There is no way Liverpool are paying £60m for Palhinha, I’d be so surprised. I have checked this with somebody I know who has good ins with Liverpool and he says it is being played down. They are being linked, have been for the best part of a year now, but the likelihood is that this not a transfer the club are going to look to do in January.”

How can Palhinha help Liverpool?

For certain Liverpool fans, this narrative is likely to remain disappointing. Despite the fact that Wataru Endo is absent for a considerable number of games due to his participation in the Asian Cup in the New Year, he is now taking on a more significant role for the Reds.

The performances of the 30-year-old in December, coupled with the imminent return of Alexis Mac Allister to the squad. Thus, eliminating the necessity for a new signing in January.

Acquiring Palhinha wouldn’t seem like the definitive solution it’s often portrayed to be. Portugal international excels at winning balls, aggressively tackling, and overpowering opposing midfielders. However, the question remains: is that precisely what Liverpool requires at this moment?

The team has functioned effectively with a midfielder like Endo, who plays a role as a shuttler. Or a No.6 like Mac Allister, known for his ball-playing abilities. Introducing Palhinha would necessitate a slight adjustment in the existing system.
