Lovepreet Singh: The man Under the bars for Kenkre FC

Lovepreet Singh, the 24-year-old goalkeeper, joined I-League side Kenkre FC on loan from Hero ISL side Chennaiyin FC. The Jalandhar-born goalkeeper did not get game time under the bars of Chennaiyin FC, so he decided to move to Kenkre FC. But the goalkeeper has an existing contract with Chennaiyin that will keep him at the club until the 2023–24 season.

Player Profile: Lovepreet Singh:

The 6.4-foot goalkeeper started his professional career with the Indian Arrows. In the 2018-19 season, Lovepreet Singh played a single game for them. Later in 2019, he went to Kerela Blasters B.

He did not get a single minute for Kerela Blasters B. In 2020, he was loaned back to the Indian Arrows in the winter transfer window. Later in 2020–21, Lovepreet Singh signed for Sudeva Delhi.

Unfortunately, he got very few chances to play for Sudeva Delhi. Later, on August 30, 2021, Lovepreet Singh signed for I-League Second Division side Delhi FC.

He also has three Durand Cup appearances for Delhi FC in 2021. He managed to keep a clean sheet there while conceding seven goals.

After that, he again went to I-League side Indian Arrows ahead of the 2021–22 season. He played two matches under the bars this season.

But surprisingly, in 2022, Lovepreet Singh got an opportunity to sign for ISL side Chennaiyin FC. But he did not play a single game for the Marina Machans.

Lovepreet Singh played a single game for Kenkre FC:

It was Kenkre FC’s last match in the I-League in 2022–23. The match was played against Aizawl FC, and Lovepreet Singh got his first chance to play for Kenkre FC.

Playing for the first time with Kenkre FC, Lovepreet Singh managed to keep a clean sheet only for the first half. Though his team led 1-0 at the end of the first half, Kenkre FC failed to capitalize on their lead.

But in the 64th minute, Aizawl FC scored the equalizer. It was Aizawl’s No. 9, Tharpuia (also known as Ramdinthara), who scored the goal from an inch-perfect through pass from David Lalhlansanga. This sudden goal broke down the concentration of young goalie Lovepreet.

Again, in the 70th minute, a long cross came into the Kenkre box from Lalbiakzuala, but Lovepreet Singh did not manage to gather the long ball, and it was headed in by David Lalhlansanga. Though Aizawl managed to get the lead, but Kenkre pulled it back in the 89th minute. The match ended as a draw with a 2-2 scoreline.

Though Lovepreet Singh has potential, he cannot show his abilities due to a lack of game time. The player can perform well on the big stage if he gets sufficient gametime.
