Manchester City announced on Friday their first deal of the January transfer window in the form of Zack Steffen. Man City announced on their official X handle that the goalkeeper will join MLS side Colorado Rapids.

No surprises as Zack Steffen leaves Manchester City

The sale of Steffen certainly won’t surprise a lot of people as he has always played second fiddle to Ederson at the Etihad. The American joined Man City in 2019. In his 4-and-a-half years contracted to the Sky Blues, he spent 2 years out on loan. In the remaining time when he was with the Cityzens, he only made 21 appearances. Most of these appearances came in the FA Cup and EFL Cup against weaker teams. 17 to be exact. He only made 2 appearances in the Premier League and 2 in the Champions League.

His record has been fairly decent though. In the 21 games which he played, he kept 8 clean sheets and conceded just 16 goals.

Man City to fight for a treble again

Almost halfway into the season, Man City are still well placed for another treble. They are third on the Premier League table with a game in hand. If they win that game in hand, they’ll be just 2 points behind league leaders Liverpool. With Liverpool and other top teams set to miss a few key players to injuries and international duties, they are expected to drop a few points. This could be the perfect opportunity for City to capitalize and cover up the gap, and maybe even take the lead.

Man City are also still alive in the FA Cup and the UCL. They would definitely need the whole squad if they want to win the Treble once again as fixture will get congested for them. However, Steffen would still have been excess to the requirements of Manchester City as they already have Ortega and Carson as backups for Ederson.
