About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Manchester City is reportedly open to letting Aymeric Laporte join FC Barcelona in a swap deal for Frenkie De Jong. The Premier League Champions were long time admirers for De Jong. The Dutchman was previously in the news for a move to the Etihad Stadium during the summers of 2022. Man City have reportedly made an official bid of €75 Million to acquire the services of the Dutch Midfielder.

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona has now turned their attention towards Aymeric Laporte to bolster their Defense. They are considering a move for the Spanish International who has been a pillar in City’s defence. Laporte has helped Man City to continue their dominance in the Premier League.

He is a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side that has won 3 PL trophies in 4 seasons. The Spaniard was also heavily linked with a move away from Man City last summer but he is currently experiencing a sensational season with City.

FC Barcelona was looking to sign him last summer when the news broke out that he might leave Man City. However, Laporte decided to stay and now there are rumours of him moving to Camp Nou. The 27-year-old’s progress this season has not gone unnoticed, as Barcelona are re-igniting their interest in the defender.

FC BARCELONA ARE LINING UP A SUMMER MOVE FOR MANCHESTER CITY CENTRE-BACK AYMERIC LAPORTE

Aymeric Laporte joined Manchester City from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018 and has largely gone from strength to strength at the Etihad. The 2020/21 season was difficult for the 27-year-old, however, he ended up winning the Premier League with Man City. He has also become a key figure for the Spanish national side as Spain reached the 2020 UEFA Euro Semi-Finals and the UEFA Nations League.

As a result, Laporte has once again become a first-choice Centre-back for Manchester City this campaign. He has appeared 19 times across all competitions, scoring two important goals along the way. Laporte also scored the winning goal for the City during the 2021 Carabao Cup Final against Tottenham Hotspur.

According to reports, Pep Guardiola has informed his club to explore a possible way to swap Laporte for Frenkie De Jong. Reports have also claimed that De Jong is not currently interested to leave Camp Nou. Man City and Barcelona have already done business during the January transfer window when Ferran Torres moved to Camp Nou in an initial £46.3m deal. The Catalans also signed Eric Garcia as a defensive reinforcement last summer from Manchester City.
