Despite trailing Arsenal by eight points in the Premier League, Manchester City has taken the lead in the race to sign a significant player from Real Madrid. Nathan Ake has been filling in as the left-back for Manchester City this season. Guardiola’s options have been limited, especially after Joao Cancelo left on loan to Bayern Munich in January. According to the report, Manchester City are now leading the race to sign Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid ahead of Arsenal. Guardiola’s side have identified left-back as a priority position to strengthen their squad this summer. Mendy is the ideal candidate to fill that void in the right.
Real Madrid is reportedly willing to listen to offers for Ferland Mendy in the summer. They could sell him if the right offer comes in. The club is said to be growing frustrated with the left-back’s injury record. Hence, they are considering replacements such as Valencia’s Jose Gaya and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.
Where will Ferland Mendy end up at?
It seems that Real Madrid would only consider selling Ferland Mendy for an amount exceeding £50 million, as per the report from Fichajes. Mendy has two years left on his contract. However, the Spanish club would still want to make a profit on the £46.5 million they spent to sign him from Lyon four years ago.
Arsenal is also showing interest in Ferland Mendy. However, given that Arsenal already have two left-backs in Kieran Tierney and Zinchenko who can fill in that position, it is unlikely that they will prioritize a move for Mendy. Instead, they are reportedly focusing on signing Declan Rice. Thus, adding more attacking options to cover for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.
Ferland Mendy has been a key player for Real Madrid since joining in 2019. He made130 appearances for the club and contributing to two La Liga titles and a Champions League triumph. He also established himself as a regular in the French national team. However, only time will tell the next destination of the French footballer.
