Manchester United 1-1 Everton Post-match analysis

Manchester United failed to win yet another home match after Everton held the Red Devils by 1-1 at Old Trafford

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side broke the deadlock just before the interval after Anthony Martial’s shot went straight into the back of the net with a slight deflection on the way through. In the second half, the Toffees got the equaliser from a blistering counter-attack and Andros Townsend made no mistake to score.

Manchester United are sitting third with 14 points in seven games and Everton are currently fourth with the same points in as many games.

Manchester United 1-1 Everton team news:

Solskjaer surprisingly started without Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo. Harry Maguire wasn’t available due to injury so Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof started at the heart of the defence. Edinson Cavani led the line for the Red Devils, Scott McTominey and Fred were in the midfield pivot.

On the other hand, Rafael Benítez went with his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. Without Richardson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Solomon Rondon led the line for the Toffees.

Manchester United 1-1 Everton Post-match analysis:

Manchester United dominated the first 15 minutes of the game. However, failed to create many clear chances apart from Cavani’s head that was saved by Jordan Pickford and Martial’s headed effort that went off target. After that period, Benítez’ side was a real threat for the Red Devils defence in transition. The Toffees had two great opportunities to score but the United defence stood tall and dealt with the attack.

On the 43rd minute mark, Manchester United finally scored the goal after Bruno Fernandes’ pass finished it off in style by Martial. Despite leading the game, Manchester United didn’t look in control and failed to create chances for the forward players.

Everton scored the equaliser midway through the second half after Fernandes’ awful corner fell nicely for Demarai Grey. And his run dismantled United defence then the ball came to unmarked Townsend who made no mistake to find the back of the net.

The Toffees scored yet another goal late into the game. But thankfully for the Red Devils fans, it was ruled out for the offside.

Notable Performances:

Andros Townsend: The former Crystal Palace man is becoming more valuable for the Evertonian in every game. He scored a superb goal and worked extremely hard in defence as well.

Anthony Martial: Despite scoring the goal, the Frenchman didn’t look good on the day and seemed unfit. In the end, had to be taken off before the hour mark.

Abdoulaye Doucoure: He has been having a great season so far under Benitez. The midfielder was energetic and put a great shift on both ends of the pitch.

Following the international break. A tough run of fixtures is waiting for Manchester United as they will have to face Leicester City away on 16th October. And Everton will host West Ham United on the following day in the Premier League
