Manchester United are in pursuit of Leeds star Kalvin Phillips

Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly showing active interest in Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips as per the report in the English outlet The Athletic.

The 26-year-old has endured an injury disrupted season. He has made only 19 appearances in the Premier League. And the Englishman made a solitary assist.

According to the report. Manchester United are eyeing a move for the Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips. And the Red Devils are ready to offer around £50 million for the highly-rated midfielder.

Meanwhile, England International’s future will be dependent on the Peacocks’ league status next season. Jesse Marsch’s side are willing to offer a new contract to the midfielder. And the contract negotiations are currently on hold. Given that Leeds are flirting around the relegation zone.

Will Manchester United be able to sign Kalvin Phillips?

Signing Kalvin Phillips will be a great acquisition for Manchester United. However, the Red Devils are also reportedly lining up a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong. So, it will be interesting to see among them who will end up at the Old Trafford stadium next season.

The 26-year-old earlier expressed his desire that he doesn’t want to join the Red Devils for fear of backlash from the fans. Due to the rivalry between these two sides. However, if the Elland Road side were to relegate from the Premier League. Then the Peacocks will have to consider a cut-price deal for their star.

Kalvin Phillips will be a less risky signing for Manchester United. Given he has already showcased his talent in the Premier League. And he also played a key role in England’s run in the Euro 2020.

However, Frenkie De Jong would be a better signing for Manchester United. The Dutchman has already played under the Red Devils’ incoming boss Erik ten Hag. And the Netherlands international will certainly resolve the midfield issue for the Old Trafford outfit.
