According to sources, Barcelona has ‘agreed’ to sell Jules Kounde this summer. Hence Manchester United is the club to be ‘first interested’ in him. The 24-year-old has previously played for Bordeaux and Sevilla showcasing his stellar defending skills. Before joining Barcelona last summer, he was widely rumoured to join Chelsea. But Kounde accepted the Barca offer instead.

Manchester United might offer Kounde his desired role
Kounde has usually played at centre-back in previous seasons, but he has mostly featured at right-back for Barcelona this season. In 2022/23, he started 36 games across all competitions. This season, the defender has helped Barcelona cruise to a 13-point lead over Atletico Madrid in La Liga. However, according to the Spanish newspaper Nacional, Kounde is unhappy at Barcelona. They’ll have to sell to reduce their salary cost, and the Frenchman isn’t comfortable in the full-back position.
Mateu Alemany has stated that this “internal issue” would be “resolved internally”. He also stated that Kounde “may leave this summer to join another team that offers him the conditions he desires”. Man United are the ‘first interested’ club in signing Kounde, and a transfer to Old Trafford ‘makes the most sense’. Erik ten Hag ‘urgently’ wants to sign a new center-back. The Red Devils ‘would have the requisite 80 million that Joan Laporta is asking for to start negotiating the deal’ and would ‘accept the sale’ at this price. Man United may face competition from Chelsea if they want to ‘offer’ a new bid for the defender, according to the source.
According to a separate narrative from 90min, Barcelona is “shocked” by Kounde’s “transfer plan”. They were reportedly unhappy by his abrupt wish to depart the club just one year after signing from Sevilla. 90min understands that Barcelona is heartbroken by his change of mind. Hence Barca is not pleased with Kounde. Due to Barcelona’s financial difficulties and the necessity to match La Liga’s feasibility goals, the club may be forced to sell key players in order to sign top transfer targets. Kounde was not certain to be on the verge of a departure. However his abrupt change of mind might influence the club’s stance.
