Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer from rivals RB Leipzig. The announcement was made officially on their website and social media platforms.

Sabitzer joins the Bundesliga champions with only one day remaining for the summer transfer window to close. The player has an agreement with the club till 2025 and will wear the 18 number jersey of Bayern. The transfer fee is reported to be around €16m for Sabitzer.

He will now play for his former manager Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern. Sabitzer is the second player that Bayern has signed from Leipzig this season, the other being defender Dayot Upamecano. With Nagelsmann also joining from Die Roten Bullen, Bayern have once again weakened their competition.

SABITZER TO SOLIDIFY BAYERN MIDFIELD

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to play for FC Bayern. As a child my Bayern jersey was my pride and joy – I got a new one at Christmas every year. I’ll give everything for this club, I want to win as many matches as possible and of course collect lots of titles.” – said Sabitzer after his move to Bayern.

An attacking midfielder by position, Sabitzer can also fill in at multiple positions. He joined RB Leipzig in 2015 and went on to play 229 times for the club across all competitions. The 27-year-old has scored 32 times in the Bundesliga for his club in his 145 appearances.

The Austrian is a good crosser and likes to take long shots. He likes to hold on to the ball and help his teammates progress and is also decent with his defensive contributions. With his previous manager Nagelsmann present it will be much easier for Sabitzer to settle in at Munich.

As for Bayern, the move showcases the clubs dominance and strategy in Bundesliga. The Rekordmeister have been effective in bringing the best talents from Germany to their team. This not only strengthens their hold on the league, but also helps to weaken their opposition.

RB Leipzig has been a threat for Bayern in the last few seasons and finished the last time around. With the likes of Upamecano, Nagelsmann and Sabitzer leaving them this summer, the club now has the task to rebuild under the new manager Jesse Marsch.
