Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign the Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer in the coming transfer window. The 27-year-old Austrian has attracted a lot of attention from various clubs across Europe and might be on the verge of leaving RB Leipzig.
After playing his developing years at the Austrian League, he was purchased by RB Leipzig in 2014. He was soon loaned out to the sister club, RB Salzburg back in Austria. His success there saw him return to the parent club where he was set to receive better roles.
In his first season, he helped the club get promoted from the second division to the Bundesliga. The 1st season in the Bundesliga also saw them secure the 3rd position, making them the first team to grab a European spot in the first year of promotion.
It was all a nice journey for the club as well as the player as they kept maintaining their Champions League spot and he went on performing well. Last year, Leipzig reached the Semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time. Sabitzer’s loyalty and hard work were rewarded with the captain’s armband for this season.
Tottenham Hotspur plotting a move for Sabitzer
Tottenham Hotspur’s season is very hard to describe. From being at the top of the Premier League at a point to dropping to 6th now, they are struggling to perform consistently. Tottenham were once favored to win the League title. However, their form depleted after the start of the New Year.
Their inconsistency was affecting them and it was visible in their performances. Dropping unnecessary points and bottling leads, they have dropped down to 6th in the Premier League.
Although they are only 3 points behind the Champions League spot, they will have to battle with 4 other clubs. They were also knocked out of the Europa League after giving away a 3-goal lead.
Jose Mourinho’s future will be at risk if this form continues and a 3rd Premier League sacking will be imminent. However, Dany Levy reportedly trusts the Portuguese and is willing to support him in the transfer market to strengthen the squad.
Jose has been a long-time admirer of Sabitzer and had even tried to bring him in January. Although that didn’t work out, the club will be trying again before the start of the new season. His ability and technique can benefit a lot to the substandard Tottenham side.
Marcel Sabitzer will enter his final season with Leipzig as his contract lasts only till 2022. The German club will be looking to renew his contract as they don’t want to lose another player. However, Tottenham will be making a €30-40 million bid this summer if a contract renewal is not on the books.
