Mathys Tel received huge appreciation previously from Pele

Italian goalkeeper

Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich has been in outstanding form this season, even though he’s had just one start. He’s been consistently delivering goals and assists through a series of remarkable performances. However, his promise was evident last season when he became Bayern’s youngest-ever goalscorer in the Bundesliga. That is during a 2-2 draw with VfB Stuttgart. It was during this time that Edson Arantes do Nascimento, famously known as Pelé (yes, the iconic legend and multiple World Cup winner), took notice of the budding talent.

In an interview with CARRÉ, as shared by @iMiaSanMia, Tel discussed the praise he received from the legendary Brazilian forward. He mentioned:

“When I scored my first Bundesliga goal for Bayern, making me the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history. Bayern’s Instagram account posted a photo of my celebration, and Pelé left a comment on it.”

Mathys Tel expresses disappointment over not responding to Pele on time

Regrettably, there was a complication in the story. Tel explained, “I only noticed Pelé’s comment on the day of his funeral, which saddened me. The comment had been there for 7-8 weeks. I would have responded in time if I had seen it.”

While direct communication with one of the greatest players of all time was not possible, the significance of Pelé’s message endures for Tel obviously. He expressed, “Now we can’t change that, but his message will be etched in my memory forever. May he rest in peace.”
