Messi Equals Xavi’s Record Appearances for FC Barcelona

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Lionel Messi is en route to most appearances for FC Barcelona after leveling with Xavi‘s record of 767. Additionally, he made his 767th appearance in style after scoring a spectacular brace in a 4-1 win over Huesca in La Liga.

As a result, Messi is now the current top scorer in La Liga‘s 2020-21 season with 21 goals. The Catalan club is just 4 points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid, whom they face at Camp Nou in May.

Various former Barca teammates and Legends gave Messi a tribute following this rare achievement. However, it would be interesting to see whether he stays at the club after this season.

Messi – the Messiah of FC Barcelona!

Lionel Messi has been in phenomenal form once again scoring 20+ goals in 13 consecutive seasons. Only other player to do this is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese International broke Pele’s record of scoring goals recently. However, Messi has also broken the record for most goals for a club.

The two ‘GOATS’ might have been kicked out of the Champions League, however, they are influencing their respective clubs for the remainder of trophies to be won. Thanks to Messi, the Blaugranas are unbeaten in 12 consecutive matches drawing only once.

“It’s an honor for me that you’ve beaten me in the number of matches played for Barca. I encourage you to keep fighting for many more seasons and matches and the story continues”. – Xavi

“Leo congratulations for matching Xavi’s record for the official amount of games played for Barcelona. It seemed impossible for anyone to do it. You’ve managed to do it and I applaud you for that.” – Carles Puyol

The 33-year-old Argentine has scored a record 661 goals in 767 appearances for his current club, Barcelona. However, there are rumors prevailing about him leaving the club finally at the end of the season.

Clubs like Manchester City, PSG and Chelsea are in the race to sign him if he leaves his club. The question is, can Joan Laporta convince the Legend to stay at the club?
