Nagelsmann concedes title after RB Leipzig drop points against rivals

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that they are out of the Bundesliga race. This comes after Leipzig lost the top-of-the-table clash against the reigning Champions, Bayern Munich by one goal on Saturday at the Red Bull Arena.

Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig was one of the most anticipated fixtures across European football. And it didn’t fail to disappoint as it was one of the most-watched matches. Across other competitions, Bundesliga was the only one that was going neck to neck.

However, the Champions took away the 3 points to extend their lead to 7 points. With 7 fixtures remaining, it will be tough for the Bavarians to stumble to their 9th consecutive League title.

Before the match began, only 4 points separated both the teams. Before the match itself, Bayern were on the back foot as they were without their striker, Robert Lewandowski. RB Leipzig were expected to produce an upset and close the gap to 1 point, however, they failed to score even a goal, because of which a 7-point gap has been opened.

They were having a brilliant season with some brilliant defensive displays. This season, they came the closest to the podium but they might have to wait longer to get their hands on the Bundesliga title for the first time. As Bayern Munich are edging closer to another trophy.

Julian Nagelsmann admits RB Leipzig catching up difficult

When you regret the chances given on the plate, it is a very heavy blow, especially when the maiden title is on the line. The whole match was equally distributed among both sides. Bayern who were without Lewandowski had to overcome this test in his absence.

After a strong start from the hosts, the visitors soon took charge as Thomas Muller assisted Leon Goretzka who smashed the ball into the back of the net to give them the only goal of the match. Leipzig lost their only natural striker Timo Werner last year. But their defensive solidity helped them reach this far.

However, that cannot be taken as the reason for them missing easy chances. Olmo Carvajal had 2 great opportunities in the second half, which if scored would have been a different scenario. Christopher Nkunku also had a great chance which he ruined.

“We were the better side, but have to make more of our chances. Now we have to let it sink in and get on with it. If the season goes as expected, Bayern will be champions. We want to finish second.”Nagelsmann in a post-match interview.

Julian Nagelsmann said that Leipzig was the better out of the 2, and wasteful mistakes cost them dearly. With the Bundesliga title now in doubt, they will be concentrating on finishing 2nd. However, they are in the DFB Pokal Cup semi-finals and will hope to give their best there and win that.

Bayern on the other hand will have got a huge boost for the rest of the season. Along with the gap, this win will be crucial in their next fixture of the week. They will be facing PSG in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
