Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Argentine attacker Nico Gonzalez. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Lilywhites are among the teams in the race for the VfB Stuttgart player.

Nico Gonzalez joined the German outfit from Argentinos Junior in 2018. He has slowly developed into a good striker and has attracted interest from across Europe.

Fiorentina was a frontrunner for the signature of Nico Gonzalez but is now looking at other options. This has opened doors for Tottenham, who will compete with fellow Premier League side Brighton Hove Albion.

NICO GONZALEZ IMPRESSING AT GERMANY

Nico Gonzalez took his time to establish in Germany. His first season after moving in from Argentina was not fruitful as he struggled with the new league. VfB Stuttgart was relegated that season as Gonzalez was only able to score 2 goals from his 30 appearances.

However, the Argentina international soon turned this around. He became a vital part of his side’s campaign in the second division of Germany. His 14 goals and 3 assists helped Stuttgart qualify back into the Bundesliga in the very first season. He continued his brilliant performance this season as well, scoring 6 and assisting 2 goals in 15 appearances before he suffered a torn muscle fiber.

Gonzalez is a very good attacker who can play both in the left wing as well as a central striker. He has appeared 79 times for Stuttgart scoring 23 and assisting 10 goals. The Argentine likes to dribble and often likes to cut in from the left. He is a good finisher, with an excellent aerial threat.

TOTTENHAM PLANNING FOR REBUILD

Tottenham are going through a very difficult period. Though Paulo Fonseca is the frontrunner for the role of new manager yet nothing is official. Club legend and all-time second top scorer of the club Harry Kane has requested a move away from the club, as Tottenham are not able to compete for trophies consistently.

This means that there is a lot of uncertainties going into the new season. However, the club plans to freshen up its squad and considers Nico Gonzalez an excellent option upfront. Stuttgart are demanding a fee close to £25m including bonuses. Gonzalez is currently with the Argentina squad for their Copa America campaign and featured for them in their first match against Chile.

With Harry Kane’s future in doubt, moving for Gonzalez is a decent option. Multiple clubs including Fiorentina and Brighton are interested in the Stuttgart attacker. But, reports suggest Fiorentina will not meet the asking price and have turned their attention to Goncalo Guedes of Valencia. Hence if Tottenham can act fast, they could win this race for Nico Gonzalez.
