Real Madrid are considering to table an offer for Wesley Fofana

According to a report by Fichajes, Real Madrid are willing to sign the Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana this summer. Los Blancos are looking for a center-back this summer after letting Sergio Ramos leave this summer. While Raphael Varane is also facing an uncertain future, following the transfer links from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Wesley Fofana started his football career from the youth ranks of AS Saint Etienne. The youngster appeared 30 times for the French club before signing for Leicester City in 2020. The foxes signed him as a replacement for Harry Maguire in the backline by paying €30 million to the French club. Despite being a young and new addition to the team Fofana was the first starter for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The Frenchman went to impress the Leicester fans last season, through his impressive defending quality at the backline. Fofana appeared a total of 42 times for the fox’s last season. He also led his team for a fifth finish in the Premier league table and securing a Europa League spot next season. While, the main highlight was Leicester winning the FA Cup for the first time in their history, in which Fofana played a big role.

Following his impressive form for the foxes last season, Real Madrid are considering a move for Fofana. However, it is unlikely that Leicester will let their defender leave so soon. As the Frenchman has just played one year out of his five-year contract for the foxes. But if the club agrees to sell him then they may ask a price of €70-80 million for Fofana.

Real Madrid interested in signing Fofana for their backline next season

Real Madrid finished their last season without lifting any trophy for the first time after the 2009/10 season. Following which they replaced Zinedine Zidane with Carlo Ancelotti as the manager for the next season. And the Italian coach has already jumped into his first work of restructuring the team and bring back the Royal Whites to its former glory.

Currently, Ancelotti is focusing on his backline as Madrid’s successful captain Sergio Ramos left the club this summer. Ramos left as a free agent after failing to renew his contract with Los Blancos. While the Italian has another problem to deal with in his defensive options next season. As Raphael Varane is doubtful for next season as he is strongly linked with transfer rumors from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Following these issues, Ancelotti has decided to invest some money to sign a defender next season. However, Real Madrid have already got a replacement for Ramos as they signed David Alaba as a free agent this summer. But the Italian still needs to find a long-term replacement for Varane in the backline.

And as per the latest reports, it is rumored that Ancelotti is looking to secure the services of Wesley Fofana. But it will be a tough road for Madrid in order to land Fofana this summer, as Leicester City might not sell the youngster cheaply. And following Madrid’s financial situation they are not in a position to pay a high price for any player. So, let’s see if Real Madrid are able to sign Fofana this summer, or they are able to convince Varane for staying next season.
