Real Madrid on the lookout for Aubameyang this winter

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

According to a report from the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid is showing interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Merengues are reportedly considering the possibility of adding a striker during the January transfer window, and the 34-year-old Marseille forward is one of the options they are considering.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s career has witnessed a dramatic downturn over the past two years. During the 2021/22 season, the Gabonese striker held the role of Arsenal captain. He was at the peak of his career. He had even secured the Premier League Golden Boot. However, his fortunes took a rapid decline, leading to his exclusion from the first-team squad by manager Mikel Arteta. Now Real Madrid might be on their way to fetch the forward.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made a move to Barcelona in January 2022 and remarkably finished the season as the club’s joint-top scorer, despite having spent only a few months at Camp Nou. However, his time with Barcelona was brief, lasting just six months, as Chelsea signed him last summer. Unfortunately, the experienced striker’s career trajectory did not experience a resurgence during his time at Chelsea.

During his tenure at Stamford Bridge, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appeared to be a far cry from his dominant self and struggled to consistently score goals. Thus, it came as no surprise that Chelsea sought to offload him during the summer transfer window. Aubameyang went to Ligue 1 club Marseille this past summer.

Will Real Madrid really go for Aubameyang?

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s return to France with Marseille has not yielded positive results, as he has yet to score a single goal in Ligue 1 over five appearances. Nevertheless, despite his struggles, the 34-year-old has reportedly attracted the interest of a high-profile club. The report suggests that Real Madrid is considering a move for the Marseille striker during the upcoming January transfer window.

Real Madrid experienced departures in the summer transfer window with the loss of Mariano Diaz and Karim Benzema. They added Joselu as a replacement, he has performed admirably for Los Blancos. However, there remains a need for another center-forward. Therefore, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has emerged as a potential candidate to strengthen Real Madrid’s attack during the January transfer window.

Signing a 34-year-old player like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may not be seen as a prudent move by Real Madrid, despite his prior success with Barcelona. Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to observe whether the Merengues actively pursue Aubameyang’s signature in the upcoming winter transfer window.
