Real Madrid looking to re-sign 4-time Champions League winner after injury blow

Raphael Varane - Manchester United

Real Madrid have been dealt an injury blow after David Alaba suffered a serious knee injury. They even lost Eder Militao for the entire season at the start of the campaign. This has left them with only 2 center-backs in their senior team – Rudiger and Nacho. Following this, Sport have reported that Real Madrid are exploring a January deal to sign their former player, Raphael Varane from Manchester United.

The Frenchman has become a bench-warmer at Manchester United in recent months. It is reported that that could sell him for around €20 million.

Varane looks to be winning his place back as a starter at Manchester United

Varane had been out-of-favour under Erik ten Hag in recent months, however, he started the last 2 games. This was because of injuries to Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

He started in the 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League and followed it up with a man of the match showing against Liverpool at the Anfield. In the last game against Liverpool, the World Cup winner was world-class with 15 clearances and 100 per cent of his aerial duels won. He fared brilliantly from the left center-back position for the Red Devils as they didn’t allow the Reds to score a single goal.

Red Devils unlikely to let Varane go in January

Manchester United are unlikely to sanction the sale of Varane in January. They have an injury crisis of their own, and need the services of 4-time Champions League winner. He also seems to be getting back in form, so that’s another reason why United would like to keep him.

Varane’s present deal expires in June next year but Manchester United have the option to keep him for another 12 months. The club should trigger the extension clause before the New Year. Manchester United will most likely exercise their option to keep Varane for another year.
