Real Madrid targeting the Bundesliga defender

David Raum

Real Madrid lacks cover in the left-back spot. Madrid has never been able to replace the heroics of Marcelo even though the Brazilian left only this year. Ferland Mendy was brought in with huge promises. Yet he has failed to live up to expectations. While his offensive contributions are decent, the defensive part of his game makes him a liability. His inconsistency to defend wide areas against fast, skilled players has weakened the team.

A lot of speculations are surrounding his future, with Madrid‘s manager Carlo Ancelotti also seeming unsure about the player’s future in Bernabeu. The club is monitoring several prospective targets for the spot. Former academy graduates Fran Garcia and Miguel Gutierrez are linked with the club. While Alphonso Davies is also said to be of interest. However, one name stands out of the bunch. It is David Raum.

Real Madrid is interested in RB Leipzig’s left-back

According to a report by the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid has shown concrete interest in bringing the German left-back into the capital of Spain.

The 24-year-old left-back established himself at TSG Hoffenheim, which he transferred to in 2021 from his childhood club Greuther Furth. A year later, RB Leipzig paid €26 million to acquire him last summer.

For the Bundesliga team, Raum has played 22 matches and has one assist. Under Hansi Flick, the left-back has also been elevated to first-choice status for the German national team. To date, he has earned 14 caps, including two at the current FIFA World Cup 2022.

Real Madrid appears to be paying close attention to Raum’s development. However, his deal with Leipzig expires in the summer of 2027, and the source states that Los Blancos would have to pay €40 million to sign the German.

Raum would surely be an elevation to the current Real Madrid team and his attacking profile would suit them perfectly.
