Real madrid might sign an experienced back up goalkeeper

According to a new AS report, Real Madrid would like to buy an experienced goalkeeper in the summer to back up first-choice goalie Thibaut Courtois. According to Transfermarkt, the Belgian shot-stopper was Los Blancos’ best player in 2022, conceding only 46 goals in 52 games. He delivered standout performances, particularly in the Champions League final against Liverpool, where he was the man of the match. He received the Yashin trophy for being the season’s top keeper. As things stand, Courtois is Real Madrid’s No.1 goalkeeper. He has consistently demonstrated why he is deserving of that position with crucial performances one after the other.

As a result, his current backup, Andriy Lunin, has struggled to find game time. Hence Lunin is certain to leave the club in the summer in pursuit of regular playing time. In that case, the Spanish capital giants would like to bring in an experienced keeper with lots of experience to give backup and compete with Courtois when necessary. Real Madrid has used this tactic in the past with Jerzy Dudek as a backup for Iker Casillas. Hence they hope to replicate the same with Courtois.

There are no specific goalkeeping targets listed in the report, but the Merengues will want an experienced player who can effortlessly substitute in for their No. 1 while also being satisfied to play the backup role.
