Rift between Ancelotti and Real Madrid over signing a striker

Karim Benzema’s place at Real Madrid doesn’t appear to be as safe as it appeared a few days ago. His extension for another season appeared to be only a matter of time, with a final deal secured. His condition, however, has taken a dramatic change in the last 48 hours.

Clash of ideas between Ancelotti and Real Madrid

According to multiple rumours, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has opted to quit the club after 14 years. The French striker won the Ballon d’Or following an outstanding 2021-22 season in which he helped Los Blancos win their 14th Champions League title as well as La Liga. Since joining the club from Lyon in 2009, he has won 25 trophies, including five Champions Leagues and four La Liga crowns. In 647 appearances for Real Madrid, he has 353 goals in all competitions.

The Frenchman is now seriously considering going to Saudi Arabia after receiving an economically lucrative offer of €200 million. He is currently closer to leaving Real Madrid than remaining. The club is already reorganising priorities in preparation for the summer transfer season. The position of center-forward, which was formerly considered a secondary goal, is now the top priority.

According to Mario Cortegana, there is a rift between manager Carlo Ancelotti and the club on this issue.
In June, the manager hopes to sign a top-tier number nine. With such criteria, the possibilities on the table appear to be Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen. Real Madrid, on the other hand, is looking for a cheaper option for next season and sees Joselu or Roberto Firmino as potential targets. The Merengues seek to sign one of Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe as a Galactico in the summer of 2024. That, of course, explains their desire to find a temporary solution.

At the same time, Ancelotti’s fear is understandable. After all, if Benzema departs next month, he will be left with no direct backups and will be forced to play the entire season with mediocre choices. Kane, Osimhen, or Dusan Vlahovic might all help him out. The issue is likely to take a decisive turn in the coming weeks, after the Frenchman makes a final choice on his next step.
