Serie A top 4 race heats up as Inter reach the finish line

Inter Milan won their eleventh consecutive match in Serie A as they go 11 points clear at the top from the second-placed city rival AC Milan after they beat Cagliari by 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Inter now at the top with 74 points in 30 games with AC Milan sitting in the second spot with 63 points in 30 games. After the Rossoneri won their game on Saturday by 3-1 against Parma.

However, the top four race is looking much more exciting this season. Juventus, Atalanta, Napoli, and Lazio all won their respective games in this game week in the race for the top four. Roma also won their game by 1-0 against Bologna but it is unlikely that they will be able to register in the top four spot. 

Juventus are sitting 3rd in the league with 62 points in 30 games and Atalanta are sitting 4th with 61 points in 30 games. Napoli are 5th with 59 points in the same number of games. Lazio are 6th with 55 points and a game in hand from the rest.

Weekend Serie A results

Inter Milan beat Cagliari by 1-0 on Sunday in a very critical game to extend the lead at the top. Former Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian scored the only goal of the game from a Achraf Hakimi cross at the 77th-minute mark.

AC Milan won their game on Saturday against Parma by 3-1. Ante Rebic and Frank Kessie scored two goals in the first half. However, a red card to Zlatan Ibrahimovic changed the mood of the game and Parma scored a goal from Riccardo Gagliolo. But in the end, Rafael Leao scored a goal to give them the important three points.

Juventus also registered a victory, it was their back to back Serie A wins against Genoa by 3-1. Dejan Kulusevski opened the account for the Bianconeri early in the game and Alvaro Morata doubled the margin in the first half. Gianluca Scamacca put one back for Genoa and in the end, Weston McKennie scored the third and made sure the three points.

Atalanta beat Fiorentina 3-2 away from home in a thrilling contest. Duvan Zapata’s brace gave a comfortable lead to the Gian Piero Gasperini side.

However, in the second half, Fiorentina came back brilliantly as Dusan Vlahovic scored two goals to wipe out the Atalanta lead. However, on the 70th-minute mark, Josep Ilicic scored the goal from a penalty to earn them the crucial three points in the top-four race.

Napoli beat Sampdoria by 2-0 and both the goals came from Fabian Ruiz and Victor Osimhen on either side of both halves. Lazio also registered crucial three points after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored the only goal in the stoppage time.
