Sheffield United 2 – 3 Manchester United: Post-match

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Manchester United and away fixtures, a match made in heaven. The Red Devils set yet another record with a comeback win against Sheffield United.

Manchester United have now won 6 consecutive games after going a goal down in each one of them. This is the first time a team has done this in Premier League history. They have also won 10 consecutive away games in the League.

Sheffield United were very solid for the first 25 minutes of the game but then they collapsed after Manchester United scored their 1st goal. The Blades also woke up in the final 15 minutes of the game after Ole took off his wingers to bring in midfielders thereby taking off the counter-attacking prospects.

SHEFFIELD UNITED 2 – 3 MANCHESTER UNITED: TEAM NEWS

Dean Henderson got a run-in against his old club where he spent 2 seasons on loan. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained his selection by saying it was just for rotation and has nothing to do with De Gea’s form.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also selected a very attacked minded team. Midfield trio of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Bruno Fernandes was unexpected.

Chris Wilder went out with his usual 5-3-2 formation. The £25m Rhian Brewster was on the bench again to the despair of the fans.

POST-MATCH ANALYSIS:

Sheffield United broke the deadlock after Dean Henderson tried to play-out from the back and messed it up. The Blades fully dominated the game for the first 25 minutes. They closed down space well and stopped Manchester United from linking-up and creating chances.

However, all the work done in the first 25 minutes was wasted after Victor Lindelof put in a splendid long ball to Marcus Rashford, who brought it down with the best first touch one could have and then blasted it with his second touch into the back of the net.

Manchester United’s second came from another brilliant pass. This time the pass was from Paul Pogba. The Frenchman put the ball on a plate for Anthony Martial who went around Aaron Ramsdale to make it 2-1 to The Red Devils.

The comeback was now complete, but the score was still volatile as Sheffield United still had hopes of getting something out of this fixture. This hope was killed by MBE Marcus Rashford. Paul Pogba was at the heart of this counter-attack as well after he picked up the ball from a Sheffield United throw-in. The Frenchman did a sublime roulette to beat his man and then passed it to Greenwood who was fouled by Phil Jagielka. However, the play continued as Rashford picked the ball up. He then passed it to Bruno who put Martial through on goal. Martial passed it back to Rashford who made it 3-1.

Sheffield United gave Manchester United a scare in the final minutes after David McGoldrick scored a header from a corner. The Blades had yet another chance at making it 3-3 in the final minutes. However, Dean Henderson was there to stop the ball from hitting the nets.

POST-MATCH PRESSER:

“We played some brilliant football between their first goal and their second goal – the end was a bit too uncomfortable for my liking. It was a test for Dean after making a mistake like this, but he passed with flying colours.”

– Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the match.

“I’m happy with the manner of the performance. Tonight was about a performance if I’m being honest, we needed one from the players and we asked some questions from some world-class players. I am a free manager anyway, I don’t worry about what I can’t control. I don’t worry about my job.”

– Chris Wilder on Sheffield United’s performance against Manchester United.
