Manchester United have once again ignited their interest in the Norwegian. Although this time, it is the coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is trying to convince Erling Haaland to join United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who used to coach Norwegian side Molde where he also coached the player during his initial days, has been calling the starlet several times to convince him to join United.

Erling Haaland had an impressive time at RB Salzburg, scoring 5 hattricks in the process, with one of them coming in his Champions League debut. He then joined the Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund in January 2020. He has scored 49 goals in 49 games for the German side since joining them.

In the Champions League, he guided his team into the quarter-finals while scoring 4 of the 5 goals against Sevilla in the previous round. He also became the youngest and the fastest player to score 20 goals too. Although his efforts are going in vain as the rest of the team is slacking.

Solskjaer the key in United’s Haaland pursuit:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the only person who can help The Red Devils stand a chance to land Erling Haaland. Having said so, Spanish media outlet AS claims that the ‘Baby-faced Assassin’ is constantly calling his fellow countryman in a hope that he makes a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United considers him as their long-term replacement for Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian was not able to give his best at United and moved to Inter Milan in 2019.

Since then, The Red Devils have been playing Anthony Martial as their number 9, with Edinson Cavani joining now. Martial was excelling last year but that has dried up currently. Cavani also had a great start but frequent injuries and link to a move away from the club has affected him too.

They are also reported to be listening offers for Martial. If he leaves along with Cavani who only joined on a 1-year contract. With no strikers at their disposal, Erling Haaland can be the perfect fit for the red side of Manchester. Although getting him can be a little tricky.

Erling Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola doesn’t have a great relationship with the club. There was a controversy with United regarding one of his high-profile clients, Paul Pogba. He had said on his social media account that Pogba is unhappy at the club and will be looking to move away soon.

This comment was made right before their final Champions League group fixture which if they had at least drawn could have helped them progress into the next round. Post-match, many United supporters and legends blamed the super-agent for his carelessness.

Other clubs pursuing Haaland:

It is going to be a big clash to land Haaland next summer. United will have to fight with Manchester City, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Real Madrid in order to land the 20-year-old.

Haaland has recently got more frustrated with his club’s performance and lack of fighting spirit. If they fail to land a Champions League spot for the next season, he is bound to leave Germany.

Haaland has a release clause of €75 million which will only be activated in 2022. Of course, given the current news, no club is willing to wait another year. And any club can stand a chance to land him if they are willing to pay more than €100 million.

Manchester United’s only trouble in landing the player will be if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. Their relationship with Raiola can also be a hurdle. Solskjaer will hope that his old link with Haaland and the promising future at the club will be convincing enough for him to make his decision.
