The FA suspended Sandro Tonali for betting charges. Newcastle United signed Tonali in the summer of 2023 for £55 million. The Italian midfielder left AC Milan to join the Saudi project in Newcastle. However, his move turned into a nightmare in October of 2023. The perfect man for Newcastle’s midfield was mixed up with betting, despite having gelled well with the team. The Premier League suspended Tonali for 10 months after an investigation. Although he had a dream start at the club, he had to sit on the sidelines for 10 months. He missed almost an entire season. Following the Italian Football Federation’s investigation, the FA has also looked into Sandro Tonali‘s gambling.
He faced the possibility of having his ban extended after being slapped with an additional 50 charges. This news shocked Newcastle and it created a lot of issues faced by the club in the game came due to this as well.
The return of Sandro Tonali
Tonali has been training with the club throughout his ban. He will be available to play in the Premier League by August 27th. This comes as great news for the Magpies.
Nevertheless, Newcastle hoped that any further suspension would be applied in parallel to the first one, and that has turned out to be the case.
Tonali was fined £20,000 by the FA in addition to receiving a suspended two-month ban. That means he will be free to play again on August 27th.
