About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Tottenham Hotspur are heavily linked with a move for Marcus Thuram. Marcus Thuram, who is the son of legendary French footballer Lilian Thuram, plays for Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Lilywhites are going through a tough period. The club sacked manager Jose Mourinho and has not yet appointed a replacement. However, Tottenham have identified Marcus Thuram as the main transfer target for this summer.

According to RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, Tottenham sees Thuram as their top priority signing this summer. It is believed that the discussions have started and have advanced in recent days.

FLYING FRENCHMAN

Marcus Thuram has been impressive during his short time in Germany. The French winger joined Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2019 from Guingamp.

In his first season with Gladbach, the 23-year-old scored 10 goals and assisted 8 in the Bundesliga. His partnership with Alassane Plea helped his club to qualify for the Champions League. His performance took a dip this season as he was only able to score 8 and assist 2 in the league. This was also because of the dip in the overall performance of his side. Gladbach only finished 8th in the Bundesliga this season and misses on European football.

Fast and strong, Thuram is an excellent dribbler of the ball. He likes to play short passes and often cut inside to take his shots. An excellent aerial threat, Thuram predominantly plays in the leftwing position. However, he is very versatile and can easily adapt anywhere on the frontline.

THURAM PRIORITY FOR TOTTENHAM

Tottenham Hotspur have not found a replacement for Jose Mourinho, who was sacked towards the end of the season. The club has appointed Fabio Paratici as Sporting Director, showing their commitment to the cause. They are also in talks with Paulo Fonseca, who is currently the frontrunner for the manager job.

There is also have the issue of Harry Kane to handle. Not winning any trophies has frustrated the England captain. He has requested his intent to leave the club in the summer. Thus the move for Marcus Thuram could help in rejuvenating the attack.

Marcus Thuram still has 2 years left in his contract with Monchengladbach. This means that any move for the French winger will not be cheap and could cost upwards of £30 million. Thuram is currently with the France squad for the Euro 2020. Discussion is ongoing and more developments are expected in the coming weeks.
