Xavi thrashed Roberto’s critics after Barcelona outclasses Cadiz

Sergi Roberto

After Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Cadiz on Sunday, Barcelona boss Xavi took aim at those who criticize Sergi Roberto. In Sergio Busquets’ absence, Roberto captained the side at Camp Nou.

After scoring the opener and setting up Robert Lewandowski for the second goal, Barca moved eight points clear as the league leaders.

Xavi had a comfortable time this time around as Barcelona were outstanding against Cadiz. Ferran Torres had three chances to score before being involved in the build-up of Roberto’s goal before Barcelona took control with a Roger Marti goal ruled out for offside. In the 43rd minute, Roberto scored from close range after Torres dribbled past three defenders and crossed the ball.

Right on half-time, however, Lewandowski extended Barca’s lead with a low shot. In the 57th minute, the Poland striker almost scored again. Xavi was undoubtedly delighted with how Barcelona performed so far. Cadiz took advantage of Barca’s pause and created chances. Besides Marti getting his goal ruled out because of foul, Christopher Ramos de la Flor and Choco Lozano both unfortunately hit the post.

What did Xavi talk about Roberto?

Xavi post-match comments regarding Roberto are here.

“Sergi always performs in different positions. The criticism of him has been really unfair, among the

worst I have seen in my career.”

“This is a player who’s come through at the club. He performs wherever he plays, he never complains,

he’s a tremendous captain, selfless, loves the club. I have blind faith in him.”

A crucial Europa League match awaits Barcelona in Manchester. In addition, Xavi said that Busquets will return to the game after recovering from an injury. As Pedri is out due to an injury, it will be a tough night for the Catalans as they travel to Old Trafford.
