Arsenal closing in on a deal to sign £25 million Dortmund defender

Arsenal Zagadou, Football Express

Arsenal are close to completing the deal for Borussia Dortmund’s defender, Dan-Axel Zagadou. The Gunners have been pursuing the Frenchman for a while and considers him to be the perfect partner for Gabriel Magalhaes for the upcoming season and beyond.

Zagadou was nurtured in France. He spent 6 years at PSG’s Youth academy before making his move to Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Since his move to the German side, he has made over 70 appearances for the club in the span of 4 years.

However, he has been dealt with a heavy blow as he will not be playing for the remainder of the season. Zagadou had incurred a knee injury which is currently undergoing treatment. Despite Borussia Dortmund having other defenders to fill the gap, the team is currently struggling.

Sitting 5th in the Bundesliga, Dortmund will have to improve considerably to land a top 4 spot. However, they are going strong in the Champions League. Dortmund defeated Sevilla with some Haaland brilliance and they will be facing Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

Zagadou could be the future for Arsenal

Arsenal are having one of the strangest seasons. They started the campaign with a great win, but after that, it has been miserable for them. They were close to the relegation zone. However, their sudden upturn in form this year has brought them back to the upper half of the table.

Mikel Arteta has made it obvious not to repeat the same mistakes. For which a full team overhaul will be taking place. Mikel and Edu are planning for a busy transfer window with players set to move both ways.

Arsenal had already signed a talented defender, Gabriel, at the start of the season. Although he has been excellent, a proper pair-up for him hasn’t been found. Rob Holding has found a frequency alongside him, but Arsenal will not drop the aim of signing a defender.

They have conceded 32 goals this season. Only Liverpool from the traditional top 6 has conceded more than them. Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi were sold by the club this January, showing that Arsenal are serious about what they are planning.

So Arsenal will try their best to sign Zagadou. Moreover, he is valued at just £25 million which is extremely low for a player of his calibre. The 21-year-old defender is injured, however, Arsenal will be willing to take the risk because, with the right care, he can become one for the future.

Arsenal might finally be challenging for the Premier League title again

The slow progress the club has been making has made us wonder if the old Arsenal might soon be making the comeback. This season they signed some important players with most of them proving their worth in the squad. And with some more signings like these, there is no question why they won’t be challenging next season.

Their biggest signing was Thomas Partey who has completely changed the ratio of that midfield. His move to Arsenal was nothing short of a miracle. Thomas’ performances have gained a lot of praise and he has been compared to many greats.

Arsenal signed Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid in January. He has been yet another hit for them. They will be trying to make that move permanent as his current involvement has helped Thomas Partey even more. Arteta and Arsenal will be looking at the possibility of signing him once his loan period ends.
