According to rumours, Manchester United has joined FC Barcelona in their pursuit of Royal Antwerp’s Belgium U19 international Arthur Vermeeren. Ten Hag wants Manchester united to sign Vermeeren

The 18-year-old has already made an impression at the senior level for Royal Antwerp. He has made 32 appearances for this season’s Belgium Cup winners. He has also been capped three times for his country at the U19 level. The centre-midfielder has already attracted the interest of several clubs throughout Europe, with Erik ten Hag telling Manchester United to “fight Barcelona for signing the gem.”

Barcelona considers Vermeeren as a potential ‘low cost’ pivot

Barcelona, on the other hand, considers Vermeeren as a potential ‘low cost’ alternative for Ruben Neves and Joshua Kimmich. He is in ‘good-position’ for a move to the Spanish club. In addition Vermeeren is available for a ‘very small fee’ that ‘would not surpass 10 million euros’.

Man United have been ‘amazed’ by Vermeeren’s recent progress. Thus the La Liga giants have ‘encountered a snag’ in their pursuit of him. United ‘may surpass’ Barcelona in the race to sign Vermeeren because the Spanish club has yet to submit a ‘formal bid’ for the teenager. Barcelona, on the other hand, appears to be a big fan of the young midfielder. According to the source, ‘observers’ at the club believe ‘Vemeeren may be a better prospect to succeed Sergio Busquets than Martin Zubimendi’.

However this summer, the Red Devils are likely to add depth in numerous positions. Ten Hag is said to be looking for a new striker, with Harry Kane among his favourite targets. A new goalkeeper appears to be on their radar as they seek a long-term replacement for David De Gea.
