EPL clubs has kept an eye on Barcelona defender Araujo

Sources close to the club have verified to 90min that Barcelona remains ‘unconcerned’ about Ronald Araujo’s contract predicament. Araujo, like the highly-rated Gavi, signed a new long-term deal last year, but Barça were unable to register it with La Liga due to financial difficulties. Araujo’s previous contract was about to expire in 2023 when he agreed to a new four-year term last summer.

Barcelona understands how unpleasant the situation has been for Araujo, and its agents have been receiving inquiries from a number of clubs interested in his services if the Uruguay international thinks his career is better served elsewhere.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United have all expressed interest in Araujo, according to 90min. Inter, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund have all expressed interest in the player. However Barcelona insists he is not for sale and will not be available.
Barça insiders have told 90min that they are “not concerned” and that Araujo’s contract would “not be an issue in the long run”. They say that both Araujo and Gavi will be Barcelona players next season while their ‘frustrating contract situation’ will be resolved in due course.
When asked about Gavi over the weekend, La Blaugrana director Mateu Alemany insisted:

“We are going to register Gavi for sure. There is no problem, it will be done and completed soon.”

Xavi can’t afford to lose Araujo

This season, the 24-year-old has been a true beast in the Barcelona back line, rising to become one of the world’s best centre backs. Araujo is a star defender due to his physicality and speed. He is versatile as he can serve the role of a right back for Barcelona. Araujo is a wrecking ball in the back, most known for nullifying Vinicius Junior.
It’s no surprise that Barcelona manager Xavi has described him as ‘extraordinary’ after witnessing his brilliance this season. Barcelona just cannot afford to lose Araujo while we don’t see Liverpool, Newcastle, or Tottenham signing him. There will be concerns as long as his contract problem remains unresolved.
