Barcelona wants Dembele to Stay as Clubs line up

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona would be looking forward to renewing the contract of Ousmane Dembele. He is currently considered by Premier League giants, Manchester United.

The 23-year-old forward was brilliant for his national team scoring a goal in their 2-0 away win to Kazakhstan. However, he has been struggling a lot with his fitness issues for a while but now, it seems he has become more confident under the new Barca coach, Ronald Koeman.

However, newly appointed Club President Joan Laporta considers the contract renewals of Lionel Messi, Dembele, Ilaix Moriba, and Oscar Mingueza. His contract will expire on June 30, 2022.

Dembele to stay at Barcelona or Leave for Manchester United

Ousmane Dembele has regained his confidence after few tough years at the La Liga club. The Frenchman joined the Catalan club in August 2017 from Borussia Dortmund so as to fill the void left by Neymar Jr. The latter became the world’s most expensive player after a move to PSG.

However, in his first-ever season in Spain, he made 23 appearances scoring four goals. The following few years were challenging as dangerous injuries haunted him.

However, now, in the current 2020-21 season, he has established himself as a regular player scoring goals when it was most needed. Currently, in 109 appearances for the club, he has scored 28 goals.

“Ousmane has confirmed that he’s getting back on the right track. He’s capable of repeated sprints and making the difference. He was rewarded with his goal.” – Didier Deschamps said after the 2-0 win over Kazakhstan.

However, his contract situation is a bit complex. According to Le10 Sport, the club will offer him a long contract with a progressive salary, with an increase in the paycheck in each season. Or else, he would get a one-year extension.

If Dembele fails to renew, the Red Devils are the favourites as of now to sign him. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team tried to sign him last year, but he decided to stay in Spain. Thus, the Cules would also think about the possibility of him moving to England if he fails to renew the contract.
