Borussia Dortmund have identified Sancho replacement

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Borussia Dortmund are monitoring Donyell Malen of PSV Eindhoven. This is according to the reports from Bild, which suggest that the Holland attacker will be the replacement for Jadon Sancho.

Sancho is heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. The Reds have launched an initial bid for the English winger. But Dortmund have rejected it as United was not able to meet their valuation.

There are reports of Sancho having agreed on personal terms with Manchester United. With the departure of the 21-year-old imminent, Dortmund have shifted their attention to find a replacement. The club seems to have identified Malen as the ideal candidate.

DONYELL MALEN CAN REPLACE BOTH SANCHO AND HAALAND

Donyell Malen has been incredible for PSV in the last few seasons. A former Arsenal player, he has been excellent at the Eredivise. He has hit more than 10 goals in his last three league seasons. In this season he scored 19 and assisted 8 goals for his club.

Malen is a strong finisher of the ball and is also a good passer of the ball. He likes to dribble past the players and often creates chances for his teammates. While he started of as a winger, Malen is now predominantly playing as a centre-forward.

This could be something both the player and the club will be keeping in mind. Dortmund currently have Erling Haaland in the their team, and he will be their main centre-forward. Hence bringing in Malen could reduce his role in the centre and thus Dortmund could become an unattractive option.

However, if both Malen and Haaland can be accommodated in the same team, Dortmund will have a terrifying attack next season. With Haaland regularly catching interest from all the top clubs, Malen could become the replacement for the Norwegian in the future.

SANCHO SALE TO FUND DORTMUND TRANSFERS

But for Dortmund to complete any deal, they will first have to sell Jadon Sancho. As per reports, the Black and Yellows will only fund new transfers if they can sell the England international. Thus any deal for Malen will have to wait.

Sancho is ever closer to leave the club and as per Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are pushing for the move. It is believed that the English club will rethink its strategy and come back with a renewed offer. Dortmund is holding for a fee of more than £80m.

Both Sancho and Malen are with their respective nations in Euro 2020. Malen is contracted with PSV till 2024 and is expected to cost more than £30 million. Dortmund have set the deadline for any Sancho transfer as the end of July. So expect more development in the coming weeks.
