Donny Van de Beek Made Mistake Joining Manchester United – Van Gaal

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Louis Van Gaal, former Manchester United boss believes his compatriot’s decision to join United from Ajax last summer was a wrong one. Donny van de Beek has made only two starts this season in the Premier League and Van Gaal’s say on snub of Donny, adds weight to the statement. Manchester United currently sit 8th in the table after a goalless draw in the Manchester Derby.

The highly-rated Dutch midfielder arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax for €40 million. The 23-year-old talent seems to be having a hard time getting minutes to play under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He was an unused substitute in the Manchester Derby this past week when United needed more creativity in the play.

Ex-Boss hopes Van de Beek’s time will come but he insists that his choice was not good. He points out that when United have Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, what position should Van de Beek be in then? Van de Beek doesn’t have the qualities of Pogba and Fernandes. Pogba doesn’t start often nowadays. Then, where should Van de Beek play if so? asks Van Gaal.

Donny Van de Beek happy regardless

Donny Van de Beek was heavily linked with Real Madrid before his move to Old Trafford. Ajax has always be in good terms with united in the matter of transfers in the past as well. Edwin van der Sar, Ajax executive and former United goalkeeper endorsed the move for Beek. Ole have defended his use of Van de Beek but will surely have fingers pointed at him if they drop more points.

“‘It sounds cliché for me to say this because of course, I would have liked to play more, but I really enjoy being in a nice team, I am simply received very well and helped by everyone

-Van de Beek on his time at Manchester United

Despite the struggles, Van de Beek stated last month that he is happy at United after scoring a goal against Spain in 1-1 draw during the international break.
