Emerson Royal’s father says his son may ‘take a bigger leap’ by joining Real Madrid

Emerson Zulu, the father and agent of Tottenham Hotspur player Emerson Royal, believes it is time for his client to take a “bigger leap” this summer, amid reports of a shock move to Real Madrid. Spurs have had another rollercoaster year, with another manager ousted in the middle of the season and their trophy drought certain to continue.

Tottenham full-backs might be sold this summer

Tottenham’s season reached a new low with a 6-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday. Cristian Stellini’s choice to change formation before a season-defining match has to be one of the most unusual moves in the league this season. Tottenham switched from a back five to a more standard back four after about two years. However, two wing-backs, Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic, were chosen to play full-back.
Many of Tottenham’s wing-backs’ futures will be examined this summer, especially if the club’s next permanent manager opts for a back four. Perisic is expected to return to old club Inter Milan at the end of the season, according to multiple reports.

Emerson Royal’s job could also be put at risk. The Brazilian cost around £26 million when he arrived from Barcelona in 2021. However he has struggled to live up to expectations in north London. Royal has done better since the World Cup break, though the bar was set quite low to begin with. In any case, according to the player’s father, who also serves as his agent, Royal could leave Tottenham soon.

Emerson Royal ‘s father aspires “a bigger leap” for his son

Royal’s father, Emerson Zulu, stated on the Charla Podcast that his son has a “high possibility” of leaving Tottenham. He went on to say that it’s time for Royal to “take a bigger leap” to a club that would “fight for titles”. Zulu then suggested that his son may join Real Madrid in what would undoubtedly be a surprise deal.

“There is a great possibility that Emerson will leave Tottenham,” said Emerson’s father.

“We believe it’s time for him to take a bigger leap and to go to a team that fights for titles. I think he fits a giant like Real Madrid.”

If Royal’s father’s feelings are shared by his son, the right winger appears to have outgrown Tottenham. A significant portion of the Tottenham Hotspur fanbase will be amused, considering Royal’s failure in north London. Regardless, with Porro unlikely to leave and Djed Spence returning from a loan spell at Rennes next season. Emerson Royal sale might not be the worst thing in the world for Spurs.

Real Madrid are rumoured to be looking for a replacement for Dani Carvajal this summer. Even still, a Real Madrid move for Royal, whom rivals Barcelona couldn’t believe Tottenham paid £26 million to buy, appears overly ambitious on the player’s behalf.
