Igor Stimac after India’s Intercontinental Cup Win -” We are Halfway from our goal”

Igor Stimac is a Croatian Football coach. He is the head coach of the Indian National team. Stimac has played for the Croatia team, winning 53 caps and 2 goals. Stimac was the manager of Croatia’s national team in 2012. Croatia entered the 2014 world cup and took 16 points. Igor was announced as the country’s head coach by the All India Football Federation on 15 May 2019.

Igor’s first campaign with India was the 2019 World Cup. India National Men’s team won the 2023 Intercontinental Cup, defeating Lebanon. Stimac said,” I was overall happy with the team’s result “. He said that the team would score more. Igor said that he believed in his players and their performance. India ranked 101 in FIFA. India had struggled to break Lebanon’s defense in the first half. Sunil Chhetri said the team received some “tongue-lashing” from Igor, which popped them up for the second half.

Igor said, “I know we can do better. As a coach, I cannot show satisfaction. I am happy now, but we are not going to stop working, will look to do better and push for more. Lebanon is already behind us, not a better-ranked side, sorry to say that, but we jumped over them a few days ago. There is still a long way to go. When you go out there and face Australia or Uzbekistan, you really need to be ready.”

Igor also praised Odisha Government for caring about football and providing state-of-art pitches and other facilities during the tournament.
