Mason Mount yet to play a game for Manchester United

Manchester United

Manchester United has faced a considerable number of injuries since the start of pre-season. To the extent that one could compile a starting XI and a full bench with players who have been sidelined at some point. Some players, such as Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo, and Amad, are yet to make an appearance. That is since the regular campaign began. Lisandro Martinez, who suffered a setback in September, may not return until possibly 2024.

Luke Shaw is another player absent from the Manchester United squad due to injury. Meanwhile, Casemiro is facing a challenge to return before Christmas. The persistent setbacks have fueled defensive frailties for United. With Jonny Evans being the latest player out ahead of the match against Luton.

The hectic fixture schedule could be a valid explanation given the congested calendars following the Covid pandemic. However, it’s noteworthy that Manchester United played across five countries and two continents in pre-season. Thus, participating in eight matches – a higher number than any other Premier League club.

Manchester United suffering due to lots of injured players

Mason Mount, starting from the beginning, sustained an injury two weeks into the new season. On the other hand, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad faced long-term problems due to knocks sustained in friendlies. While injuries in football are inevitable, there is also a potential to manage and minimize them.

A significant portion of the blame can be due to simple bad luck surrounding Manchester United. Instances such as Marcus Rashford sustaining a knock in training, Lisandro Martinez’s recurring metatarsal injury from April, and Casemiro’s foot problem while on Brazil duty are just a few examples of unfortunate events contributing to the injury setbacks.

The considerable number of injuries Manchester United has faced would be a challenge for any club, and it may not come as a surprise that Erik ten Hag is struggling to find form. Additionally, Andre Onana had a concerning start to his United career, compounded by the fact that he had six different center-back partnerships in front of him in his first 10 matches.

Much attention has been towards Onana and the other summer signings, with Rasmus Hojlund being one of the few who has impressed thus far. However, United made a significant acquisition a few weeks after the transfer deadline day.
