Carlo Ancelotti is under intense scrutiny following the disappointing 3-1 defeat to crosstown rivals Atletico. Doubts are beginning to emerge regarding the Italian legend. Despite Real Madrid flawless record this season prior to their visit to the Metropolitano Stadium. Moreover, it appears that the club is already contemplating its next managerial move.

Ancelotti enjoyed a highly successful first season upon his return to Real Madrid, achieving a remarkable La Liga and Champions League double. Nonetheless, the subsequent season paled in comparison. The team exhibited significant inconsistency in their league performances and suffered a disheartening exit from the Champions League, falling to Manchester City in the semi-finals. On a more positive note, they did manage to secure victory in the Copa del Rey.

Prior to the defeat against Atletico, Los Blancos had enjoyed a flawless start to the season. This had certainly worked in Ancelotti’s favor. However, the situation has swiftly taken a different turn.

How did the former Real Madrid player fare at Leverkusen as a manager so far?

Xabi Alonso has steered his Bayer Leverkusen team to a remarkable beginning of the season. Currently holding the second position in the Bundesliga standings after the initial five games. They share an equal number of points with the league leaders, Bayern Munich. Hence, are narrowly trailing due to goal difference, a margin established after Thomas Tuchel’s side secured a commanding 7-0 victory over the weekend.

The speculations connecting Alonso to the Real Madrid managerial position are not recent and have been circulating for several months. The Spaniard has excelled in his role since assuming control at Bayer Leverkusen in October of the previous year, and many consider him the perfect candidate for the coveted Santiago Bernabeu managerial position.

Alonso recently inked a fresh contract with Bayer Leverkusen, extending his tenure until the summer of 2026. This could potentially pose a hurdle for Real Madrid in their pursuit of the Spaniard. Nevertheless, if the Spanish giants are truly determined to secure his services, overcoming this obstacle may not be an insurmountable challenge.
