West Ham bid for Ligue 1 defender Aguerd rejected

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

West Ham United has seen their bid for Stade Rennais defender Nayef Aguerd rejected by the French club. The Premier League side is in the market for a defender and consider the Ligue 1 star as an option.

The Hammers have been linked heavily with a move for Fiorentina star Nikola Milenkovic. However, West Ham are now looking at other alternatives and sees Aguerd as the perfect solution.

Aguerd made his move from the French side Dijon to Rennes last season and has been impressive. Hence the club is not looking to sell the Moroccan this summer, though West Ham are willing to spend as much as €20m for him.

AGUERD AN ALTERNATIVE FOR WEST HAM

West Ham are coming back from an excellent Premier League season. The Hammers finished 6th in the league and have qualified for the UEFA Europa League. This meant that David Moyes side needs to strengthen his squad to compete at all fronts.

It is not secret that Moyes is looking to sign a central-back this summer. West Ham has been in advanced talks with Fiorentina for the Serbian defender Milenkovic. However, with no progress happening, the club is targeting other alternatives.

This is why West Ham has shifted their focus on Nayef Aguerd from Rennes. He is a solid passer of the ball and is good at handling aerial duels. He has played 41 times for his current club across all competitions, including 4 games in the UEFA Champions League.

Stade Rennais do not want to sell the player and with a contract till 2024 are in no hurry. West Ham United might come back with an improved bid if their pursuit for Milenkovic is not a success. However, it will take some convincing for the French side to sell Aguerd this summer.
