What can we expect from Sarthak Golui in Chennaiyin FC?

Sarthak Golui joins two-time Hero ISL champion Chennaiyin FC ahead of the upcoming 2023–24 season. The Kolkata-born defender, who has been playing for East Bengal FC, joins Chennaiyin on a season-long loan. Sarthak’s addition will definitely add more options for CFC head coach Owen Coyle.

Player Profile: Sarthak Golui:

Sarthak Golui started his youth career at the AIFF Elite Academy. In 2015, Sarthak joined Mohun Bagan and spent two seasons with the Kolkata-based team. After playing in the I-League, he also played 27 matches for ISL side Pune City.

In 2019, Sarthak Golui joined another ISL club, Mumbai City FC. During his stint with Mumbai City FC, Sarthak won the Hero ISL title and the Hero ISL League Shield in 2021. Sarthak played 17 matches for the Islanders.

Sarthak also played for Bengaluru FC in the 2021–22 season, in which he played in three matches. Later in 2022, Sarthak Golui joined the East Bengal club and also made 14 appearances for the century-old club.

Sarthak Golui also has the experience of playing for the national team. He played four matches for the senior national team and six matches for the India U-19 football team.

Sarthak Golui will bolster Chennaiyin FC’s defense in three ways:

  • Defensive solidity and strength:

The 25-year-old centre back is expected to add depth and solidity to the team’s defensive line. With the addition of Sarthak, Chennaiyin’s defense will look more solid and compact due to his defensive strengths.

  • Versatility:

Across 80 matches in his professional career, Sarthak has showcased versatility by playing in different positions. Sarthak, who basically plays as a centre back, can also operate as a right back or left back. His versatility is going to be very useful for the Marina Machans in the upcoming seasons.

  • Experience:

Sarthak, who has been an integral part of Mumbai City FC’s ISL-winning campaign, has also represented the national team several times. Sarthak has experience playing at the top level, which will add more strength to Chennaiyin’s defense.
