Hoeness breaks his silence as he speaks on Choupo-Moting transfer

Ulrich “Uli” Hoeness, former CEO of Bayern Munich and current member of the Bayern board, recently discussed some current issues. Among the topics he discussed were the Cameroonian star himself, Bayern’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and the contract negotiations. Currently, with Bayern Munich for nearly 3 years, the Bavarian giants are looking to extend his contract.

In spite of Choupo-Moting cementing his position as a starting striker and becoming essential to the squad, negotiations have become difficult. Choupo’s agent is reportedly demanding double Choupo’s current wage in a two-year contract. In other words, his agent demands more from the club which will confirm his stay with the Bavarians.

Demands made by Hoeness to make Choupo-Moting stay

Despite these big demands, Hoeneß says Bayern has not shied away from them. He said:

“I’m not involved in the operational business, but there’s big interest in extending his contract.”

Even so, Hoeneß couldn’t resist throwing one of his trademark barbs. He added:

“Extending Choupo’s contract is not so easy when Choupo’s agentRoger Wittmann is on the other side of the negotiations, he sometimes mixes up the zeros.”

Hoeness will like to make the player stay anyhow even if it means giving him a 2-year contract.

“Eric helped FC Bayern in a difficult situation when nobody believed he would. That’s why I think we should try, even if it meant giving him 2 years.”

Bayern’s current policy is to extend the contracts of players over 31, including Choupo, for no more than a year. Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, and others were not exempt. Choupo-Moting’s case would be interesting if Bayern ignored the policy.
