Sunil Chhetri extends his stay at Bengaluru FC for two more years

Bengaluru FC have extended skipper Sunil Chhetri’s contract by two more years. The club officially announced that Sunil signed a two-year deal on 20 June. The new contract will extend his stay at the Bengaluru FC for the 10th season.

Sunil Chhetri joined the Bengaluru FC back in 2013 and stood at the top of the goal scorer list in his eight-season with the club.

“I’m really happy to have signed on for two more years at Bengaluru FC. The city is home now, and the people at this club are like family to me. It feels like just yesterday that I signed for the first time here, and I have to say the journey has been nothing short of special. I love this club, the supporters and the city, all three of which I have a strong bond with, and I’m looking forward to being part of many more great moments with them,”– Sunil Chhetri after signing the deal

The 36 years old striker has led the club since 2013, he made 203 appearances for the club, scoring 101 times. Earlier this month, Chhetri’s scored a double goal against Bangladesh in the FIFA World Cup and AFC Cup joint qualifier.

Chhetri is India’s all-time top goalscorer and holds the record for the most national team appearances. Currently, he is India’s active top international goal scorer with 76 goals in his name. As per the active International goals scorer listing, Chhetri is above Argentina’s Lionel Messi. While Christiano Ronaldo is at the top of the table.

The Blues will lock horns against  Eagles FC in AFC Cup 2021 play-offs stage in August.
