2022–23 Hero I-League champion Punjab FC gets a promotion to India’s top-tier football league. Punjab FC has announced the signing of young defender Nikhil Prabhu on a three-year deal.
Player Profile: Nikhil Prabhu:
Nikhil Prabhu, a quality defender, has excellent on-the-ball ability. He has good positioning sense, great physical strength, and is smart with quick forward passes.
Hailing from Maharashtra, Nikhil Prabhu started his footballing career by making a good impression with the Mumbai FC and Thane FC junior teams. He joined the Pune City FC’s U-18 side in 2018. In the following year, when the franchise shifted base to Hyderabad FC, he joined the new team.
In 2019-20, the 22-year-old defender made his debut for the Hyderabad Reserves team in the second division league against Chennaiyin FC Reserves and also scored a goal against them.
Performance in ISL: Nikhil Prabhu:
Two seasons later, in 2022–23, Nikhil Prabhu moved to Odisha FC and made his ISL debut in a goalless draw against ATK Mohun Bagan. Prabhu also made six ISL appearances for the Juggernauts. The young star has shown promise in his game and impressed with his defensive skills.
In February 2023, Prabhu joined FC Goa and played four matches for the Gaurs.
