West Ham United have reportedly started negotiations with Montpellier over a possible deal for French forward Gaetan Laborde, as per the report from journalist Ekrem Konur.
The 27-year-old joined La Paillade back in 2018 from Bordeaux for around €3 million. The forward enjoyed a productive season with the Ligue 1 outfit last term, scoring 16 goals and assisting eight times in 38 league appearances. The Frenchman has continued the previous season’s momentum into the new campaign, scoring two goals in three appearances.
Earlier French outlet Le10Sports reported that West Ham are interested in the Montpellier forward Gaetan Laborde. And now the journalist Konur has provided credibility to the news by stating that the Hammers have started talks with the French side over a possible transfer.
The Frenchman is a long-term target for the London club and they have taken the first step to make this deal happen. Apart from Gaetan Laborde, the Premier League side are also keeping an eye on Clermont Foot 63 forward Mohamed Bayo. The Ghanaian forward has started the top-flight campaign brilliantly, scoring three goals and assisting one time in three appearances.
West Ham interested in Gaetan Laborde:
The Hammers have commenced the new Premier League campaign brilliantly – two wins in two games with eight goals scored – and sitting at the top of the table. The forwards Michail Antonio and Said Benharama are showing promise at the London stadium.
However, keeping Antonio’s injury record in mind, David Moyes has to sign a proper backup. With the 31-year-old in the starting line-up, Moyes’ side look excellent on the pitch. But, without him, the Hammers lose a big attacking threat.
So, bringing in a new forward will be a shrewd decision by the London club. Gaetan Laborde could be a very good addition to the attacking line of West Ham. The Hammers will be playing in the Europa League this season. So, strength in depth is extremely crucial for success.
