Barcelona on the record books after 17th clean sheet this season

Gavi

Despite their struggles in Europe, Barcelona have been near perfect defensively in La Liga. Barcelona have conceded just seven goals in Spain this season, and three of those came against Real Madrid. Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been instrumental in securing those clean sheets. Meanwhile Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo formed a wonderful chemistry at the back.

With two shots on goal, Barcelona was lucky somewhat against Cadiz. Out of 22 league games, they managed to keep 17 clean sheets. A side has not achieved that number since 1993-94 when Deportivo La Coruna, with Arsenio Iglesias in goal, achieved 16. Another statistic that Barca shares with Deportivo de La Corua from the 93/94 season is 7 goals conceded in 21 games. At the moment, Xavi Hernández’ squad has scored 43 goals, won 18 matches, drawn two, and lost one. With 13 wins, six draws, and two defeats, Deportivo scored 29 goals in 93/94.

In 2015/16, Depor and Atletico Madrid set a record of 18 goals over the course of a league season, which Ter Stegen will certainly strive to beat.

Barcelona performance in Europe

On average, they concede two goals a game in European football this season. Hence, their European record is not that impressive. In their match against Manchester United on Thursday, they will be scrutinized again.

Ultimately, at the end, if they manage to win the La Liga, it will be considered a successful season for the Barcelona side.
