North East United signed Mirshad Michu in 2021 from East Bengal. Basically, he was signed as a backup to their first-choice goalkeeper, Subhashish Roy Chowdhury. Going forward, Mirshad Michu becomes the first-choice goalkeeper for the Highlanders.
Player Profile: Mirshad Michu:
The 29-year-old Kerela-born goalkeeper started his career with FC Bardez Goa. In 2017-18, he joined Gokulam Kerela on loan. Later, in 2017-18, he was signed by East Bengal.
He had been with East Bengal for three years. Mirshad has played 10 I-League games and 22 ISL games till now. Since joining the Highlanders, Mirshad Michu has played 21 ISL games under the bars.
Playing for North East FC, Mirshad Michu managed to keep only two clean sheets in the ISL.
Season 2021-22: Got some chances in his first season with the Highlanders:
In his maiden ISL season with the Highlanders, Mirshad Michu got chances to showcase his ability. Though North East United had experienced Subhashish, they played with Michu in eleven games.
Michu has been on the field for 960 minutes and also conceded 20 goals.
Season 2022–23: The Highlanders showed belief in Mirshad Michu in spite of having Arindam:
North East United FC signed Golden Gloves-winning goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya ahead of the 2022–23 season. But Arindam failed to deliver according to his capabilities. He was not in his peak form due to his injury.
During Arindam’s unavailability, Mirshad got the chance to play in 10 matches last season. He also played four matches in the Super Cup.
Why Mirshad Michu is the main dependence for the North East under the bars:
It is fact that in the last few years, North East United has used experienced goalkeepers like Subhashish and Arindam. But as soon as the season goes on, Michu becomes their reliable goalie and is featured as their main alternative.
Though he did not deliver some notable results playing as a goalkeeper. But with his best performance, Mirshad Michu met the requirements of the Highlanders.
Mirshad has been the savior for North East United on many occasions with his quick hands, sharp reflexes, and well-measured outings. And ahead of the upcoming season, he is going to be the first choice goalie on the North East side, as the Highlanders have not managed to secure the signature of any experienced goalkeeper till now.
