Owen Coyle returns as Chennaiyin FC Head Coach

CHENNAIYIN FC

Chennaiyin FC announced that Owen Coyle will return as their head coach after three years for the 2023-24 season on a multi-year contract. Coyle, who has won the Premier League Manager of the month award three times is a well-known figure in the Indian Football circuit.

He previously managed the Marina Machans in the second half of the 2019-20 Indian Super League (ISL) season. Taking over when they were eighth in the standings, he led them to the ISL final, where they lost 3-1 to ATK. After his departure from Chennaiyin FC in 2020, Coyle moved to Jamshedpur FC. He achieved the Hero ISL League Winners’ Shield with the Red Miners in his second season with the club. He then went on to manage Queen’s Park FC in Scotland for the 2022-23 season. Coyle guided the team to promotion from League One last through the play-offs but failed to promote the team to the top-flight division of Scottish Football.

Main task for Owen Coyle at Chennaiyin FC

Chennaiyin FC have let go of 11 first team players from last season so far with Anirudh Thapa, El Khayati, Sliskovic, Julius Duker and Fallou Diagne among others. These players were the core of the team under Thomas Brdaric and Owen has a humongous task to find replacements and rebuild the team.

Chennaiyin FC have already made some signings in the transfer window, Jordan Murray and Farukh Chowdhary, two players who previously worked under Coyle at Jamshedpur FC.

Chennaiyin FC: 2023-24 season

The past few seasons have not been in favor of Chennaiyin FC. They have changed three coaches in the past three seasons. With bringing back Coyle into the fold, they have got their best man to turn their tables around as he did in the past. It will be interesting to see how Coyle will bring back the phoenix from its ashes at Chennaiyin FC.
